Wesker stared at the photo of Ada Wong. He had sensed a betrayal coming, but he had not expected one of this magnitude. He paid her well, never gave her more than she could handle, and made her comfortable. She was his best damn agent, and now he would have to start searching for a new one. That wouldn’t be easy. He glanced outside of the window. Snow was falling again. It was heavy and made everything a bright white. Ada used to talk about how she liked snow…

Doctor Mikhailov knocked on the door twice before entering. “I didn’t think I’d find you in here. I’m surprised. It’s New Year’s Eve, and you wish to be alone?”

Wesker rolled his eyes. He knew Arseny would not have been able to see it due to his shades, but the doctor was starting to get on his nerves. When Albert was well enough to leave the facility which was keeping him, he took Arseny with him. He acted as a go between of sorts for Wesker and the mysterious employer. Wesker was trying his damndest to figure out who it was, but Arseny continued to reassure him that they would meet eventually.

“You’re right, doctor. There’s work to be done. I have an ex-agent who is probably getting ready to celebrate the holidays. I fear I’ve put off my visit to her for too long, and must rectify the situation immediately.” Wesker stood up and grabbed his black wool coat off of the couch he was on. He silently slung it on before walking to a nearby table and grabbing some keys.

Dr. Mikhailov frowned and stood up. “I don’t think this is a good idea. You’re being reckless. We both know she will be surrounded by her new friends. Do you plan on making it a bloodbath?! Why draw attention to yourself? This is ridiculous!”

Wesker stepped around the doctor. He did not care if what he is doing was sensible or not. All he knew was that the tables were turning against him. The longer Ada Wong was free, the more she could fight against him. He would make sure that she could not help the enemy any longer.

The headquarter for TerraSave was large. Claire took pride in her work with them. Although he worried about her, Chris was proud of his younger sister. Thankfully her work was not nearly as dangerous as his. He couldn’t bare to lose his only remaining family.

Claire had invited all of her friends to the company party. There were drinks, games, fun discussions, and the chance to connect with others. Ada was in awe of it all. There were so many people enjoying themselves. Leon had kindly taken everyone’s coats and hung them up somewhere. Chris had asked Ada not to wander too far away from anyone in the group. “And if anyone asks about you, personally, just remember what we talked about. You’re still a wanted woman, and we can’t have someone becoming suspicious and outing you.”

Ada nodded, hardly paying attention to the elder Redfield. The decorations were fun, and there was lots of glitter. Jill joked about how it would probably still be there a year from now. With a drink in hand, Ada began to look around the large, open offices.

Several people invited Ada into their little circles. She wasn’t much for conversation, even though she wanted to speak. She still didn’t have many opinions on things even though Leon and Claire had been trying to catch her up on stuff. It wasn’t until she found herself stuck talking to a middle-aged gentleman that she felt more at ease.

“Why you look lovely tonight Miss Wong. I hear you’re a friend of Leon and Claire’s? How nice. I hope they are treating you well.”

“Indeed,” Ada smiled, trying not to stare at her glass of water. “They’ve been very generous, and the most gracious of hosts. Along with the rest of them, of course.”

“You mean Chris and Jill? Pity. I hear the BSAA will be sending them off on another mission soon. Somewhere up the east coast most likely. You know, looking for Spencer and what not.”

Ada’s brows furrowed. Why did that name sound familiar? “I’m sorry, Spencer who?” she asked.

“Surely you must know about Ozwell E. Spencer? Head of Umbrella Corporation? When it was still a thing, of course.”

Ada shook her head. “No, I don’t think I know it. Sorry. I’m still new to this world and all. I’m sorry to say that I’ve been a blind civilian, and only recently introduced to fighting against bioterrorism.”

The man nodded and sighed. “You seem relatively young still. If I were you, I wouldn’t get in too deep. I love what I do, saving the world and all, but life will feel pretty empty once I retire. Not being useful sure does make one feel disappointed.”

Ada rested her hand on the man’s shoulder and offered him a warm smile. “It’ll all work out, I’m sure. I’m jealous at how much everyone here loves their work. It’s dangerous and requires sacrifice, and you’re all so willing!”
He nodded and patted her hand. “Indeed, indeed! You are such a pleasure to talk to Miss Wong. I hope you’ll forgive me, but it’s nearly midnight and I must be finding my wife. She’ll be very cross with me if I don’t seal the night with a kiss. You understand?”

Ada laughed and brushed her bangs out of her face. “Yes, I do. Go find her, and tell wish her a happy new year for me, would you?”

The gentleman agreed before scurrying off into the crowd. Ada wondered where her friends had gotten to. She could have sworn she had seen Leon just a minute or two ago. She didn’t want to make Chris angry, but the clock was about to strike. People were starting to count down, and she suddenly felt quite sick. Her head felt light and dizzy, and she could hear a voice speaking. Not just anyone’s voice, but hers. She decided the best thing to do would be to go to the bathroom. That would at least offer her some privacy while she got her wits about her.

Ada moved towards the empty hallway that led towards one of the bathrooms. She wasn’t sure if she was allowed to use this one, or if it was blocked off. Either way, she was thankful for the absence of people. No one seemed to notice her. Everyone’s eyes were glued to the large TVs showing the ball drop.

The voice she was hearing was growing louder as she felt more sick. Was it a memory? If it was, she didn’t want to remember. Images, smells, words… words! She tried to focus on her own words…

Happy New Year….!!!

She wasn’t sure if it was in her mind or the crowd cheering outside. Images of a dark room flashed in her mind. The feeling of soft, warm wool beneath her fingertips. What was happening? She could hear more words. A name? Yes! She was telling someone Happy New Year, but who? Who was she with? It was like a blank spot in a picture. She couldn’t make out who it was. She couldn’t hear a name. What was the damn name?!

There was an intense ringing in her ears now, the memory fading. Happy New Year… name. Happy New Year… name! The name! What was the god damned-

“Albert!” she suddenly cried out before clasping her hands over her mouth. For some reason, she felt like that was the name. “Happy New Year… Albert…” she whispered as quietly as she could. The sound of it made her visibly shiver. Who was Albert, and why did she get the feeling that it wasn’t good?
Oh boy, oh boy! Will our two favorite characters meet up in the next chapter? What will Ada do with her partly found memory of the Tyrant? Tune in next time with chapter 5! For anyone celebrating, happy early thanksgiving. I'm thankful for Capcom (who own the characters) and for having readers that care so much! Don't forget to comment what you think! I really care about your thoughts and ideas! Cheers~
